CDC has identified certain categories of people as being at higher risk for serious complications if they get sick with coronavirus. This includes:

President

Akua recently joined the Aircraft Certification Service – International (AIR-420) in November 2016 where she currently serves as the Country Manager for the Western Hemisphere region. She joined the FAA in 2007 in the Office of International Affairs (API), where she held a number of positions, most prominently, the Foreign Affairs Specialist for the Sub-Saharan portfolio. Akua’s academic background in international business management combined with over 8 years of professional experience in the area of international aviation (aid & capacity development) lend to her dexterity, keen cultural awareness & sensitivity, and inclusive leadership style.

Akua is a Howard University, School of Business graduate and a DMV native. She lead the agency’s efforts to support the United States Presidential Initiative under the USDOT “Safe Skies for Africa” (SSFA) program. As such, Akua was responsible for the joint oversight and implementation of the FAA’s $1 million SSFA allotment. Akua enjoys learning, traveling, volunteering, styling, and spending time with her family & friends. She has visited over 25 countries – there is so much more of the world to see!

Vice President

Meleny Gomez recently joined the Aircraft Certification Service in September 2017 where she currently serves as the Congressional Management and Program Analyst for the Executive Operations Branch of the Organizational Performance Division. She earned a degree from the Harrisburg Area Community College and has served the Federal Aviation Administration since 2016. Her academic background and over 15 years of professional experience lend to her work ethic, dedication, cultural awareness & sensitivity, and eagerness to serve you in her new executive role within NBCFAE HQ.

Meleny, a New York native to immigrant parents, enjoys helping others and is an active member of her church and community. She also enjoys reading, traveling, and learning new things.

Secretary

Kevin O’tey is an In-Service Manager for the Surveillance/Weather Support Team, AJW-135, since 2014. As an In-Service Manager, Kevin is the National advocate for surveillance systems with responsibilities found within each phase of the FAA AMS lifecycle. Concurrently, Kevin also serves as the Property Delegate and WebCM Coordinator for AJW-135.

Kevin received his degree in Airport Management from Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology in Flushing, NY. In his 22-year federal career, Kevin has had extensive experience in both the staff office and field operations environments, including a temporary assignment within ATO International. Unafraid of “stepping out of the box”, he has made it a point to broaden his perspective by attaining experience in multiple lines of business. Outside of work, Kevin serves his community through mentorship, school speaking engagements, and an annual Aviation Career Education (ACE) Camp for high school students, during the summer. Kevin has been with his wife for 18 years, has two daughters (15 years apart), the oldest of which will be attending Bowie State University in the fall.

Alicia N. Ford, is the Treasurer for the NBCFAE Washington, DC Headquarters Region. Alicia joined the Office of the Administrator (AOA) in June 2019, she currently serves as the Executive Support Specialist to the Administrator, prior to that she worked in the Office of Finance and Management (AFN) as the Executive Assistant to the Assistant Administrator (AFN-1). Prior to joining the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), she had 15 years within the Banking industry.

Alicia holds a Master’s degree from the University of Maryland Global Campus and has served with the FAA since 2016. Alicia, is a Native Washingtonian and enjoys spending time with her 10 year old daughter, spending time with family & friends and traveling.

Conference Coordinator

Tamara Smith is a Management and Program Analyst (Recruiter) for the Office of Human Resources, Corporate Engagement. She is also the National Chairperson for Education, Recruitment, & Training (ERT) for the National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees (NBCFAE), and HQ Region Conference Coordinator. With over 20 years of Federal Government Service, most of her Federal Service was working with attorneys. Since coming to the FAA, nine and a half years ago, under the ATO Diversity office, Tamara took an interest in diversity and recruitment. In her role in the ATO Diversity, her passion for really assisting others became known. She assisted in the hiring initiative of Persons with Disabilities. Since then Tamara has play a significant role in outreach to Persons with Disabilities, and continues to be a reference for external organizations and consumers for employment with the FAA.

Another passion of Tamara is cooking. She caters small events for friends and family. She also enjoys traveling (personal time), reading, music, dancing, loves action movies, and loves to laugh and joke, but most of all helping others. She said, “When helping other the fulfillment is seeing and knowing how much they appreciate your willingness to help”.

Adrienne Dent, is a Senior Human Resource Specialist with the Federal Aviation Administration in the Headquarters’ Human Resources Services Division, Office of Corporate Onboarding and Employee Engagement. In this role, she is responsible for developing and implementing program guidelines and operations procedures for administration of FAA’s Corporate Onboarding Program. As the agency’s Onboarding and Employee Engagement specialist, she is instrumental in preparing briefings, webinars, and conducting fact finding research to report on findings of current policies and practices in both public and private sector organizations to determine best practices related to new hire onboarding and engagement activities that will enhance the FAA employees’ new hire experience. She manages the agency’s Senior Leadership Path to Success series, and is instrumental in the development of many of FAA’s benefits related webinar’s and presentations seen both on MyFAAtv and eLMS. She is the lead on facilitating the FAA’s bi-weekly new hire orientation seminars in HQ and the voice of FAA’s virtual new hire orientations for new hires in the regions and the subject matter expert on benefits related matters. Before joining FAA, Adrienne served as a Senior Executive with the District of Columbia Government, as Director of Retirement, Benefits and Compensation where she managed a staff of over 30 employees responsible for administering benefits, compensation and retirement for 40K district government employees.

In addition, she worked in the Executive Office of the Mayor for the District of Columbia government in the Mayor’s Office on Diversity as the Constituent Services Representative as well as authored the policy document for the District’s 401(a) Retirement program. Prior to her roles with the District Government, she held several senior management positions with the Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms and support roles with the Department of Commerce . She holds a Bachelors Degree from The University of the District of Columbia in Mass Media Communications and attended Graduate School at Bowie State University, majoring in Organizational Communications.

Parliamentarian

Christopher E. Riggins is currently assigned to the Air Traffic Organization (ATO), Management Services Service Unit, People Services Directorate, Administrative Services Group, Administrative Services Team, AJG-P13. Chris serves as a senior Management & Program Analyst for the Administrative Services Group performing a wide range of management and program support duties supporting the various programs of the Air Traffic Organization (ATO) at the Headquarters and Field Office levels. He assists managers with establishing duties and responsibilities of technical and professional positions in accordance with HR policy and guidance. Creates Job Analysis Tools and captures technical competencies in collaboration with management and the servicing HR office. Works with management to identify to HR, positions eligible for targeted recruitment to increase hiring of persons with targeted disabilities, under represented populations, and developmental positions to establish meaningful succession planning. Additionally, Chris is currently serving as the National Black Coalition Federal Aviation Employee (NBCFAE) Association Parliamentarian.

Gifts from the Heart

Marsha Sanders is the Gifts from the Heart chairperson for the NBCFAE Washington, DC Headquarters Region. Marsha has been employed by the FAA for five years. She is currently a Management and Program Analyst for the Air Traffic Organization Employee Development group.

She is also very active in her community. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Heritage Fellowship Church. Her hobbies include traveling, water sports and spending time with family and friends.
